Four 4s Narrative

Learner: Shreya and Mahi               Learning Coach:Mr Hattie
Date: 8 September 2016
Learning Area: Learning Habitat 1 - Mathematics
Learning Observed
In math today Shreya and Mahi was involved in a Collaboration activity where they had to make all the numbers from 1-20 only using the number 4. Shreya and Mahi are able to use any operation they wants and they have to use the number 4 times. The activity is called Four 4s. In Shreya and Mahi’s group they had roles. They could either be the Facilitator, Questioner, Recorder or the Resource Manager. This give each person the same importance to the group. During this activity I noticed that Shreya and Mahi were both a little reluctant to start and get involved but having the questioner there meant that they were both being asked to contribute and that made them feel more apart of the group. Their group worked very well together and Mahi wanted to share her learning at the end, she was very excited.
Evidence of learning

Shreya and Mahi are both being apart of the group. Their roles made them feel valued.
Next Learning Steps
Mahi and Shreya’s next learning steps are to:
  • Use these new collaboration skills in other aspects of the day.
  • Start using operations such as division and multiplication.

Shreya, Alesha & Disha's Nail Art Learning Story

Learners: Alesha, Disha & Shreya
Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: Week 8, Term 2
Learning Area: Visual Art             Key Competency: Using Language, Symbols & Text
Learning Observed
Alesha, Disha and Shreya chose to participate in an iExperience that involved using a cork tile, hammer, nails and thread to create an artwork. The aim of this artwork was to ‘Pay it Forward’. They needed to think about someone in their life who they could encourage by gifting them their cork tile. The learners needed to plan out their design and colour choice based on the person they had in mind to receive their finished work (connected).
Alesha, Disha and Shreya collaborated to overcome challenges and to help each other make decisions about colours. They extended their capabilities by safely using a hammer to put in the nails and show thought about how close/far apart each nail needed to be.

  • Write a letter/postcard to the person who will be receiving the tile. Tell them about what the materials are and how it was made.
  • Display tiles in the habitat and talk to other learners about how they were made.

Saniya, Shreya & Disha's Satellite Learning Story

Learners: Shreya, Saniya & Disha
Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 7.3.16
Learning Area: iExperience - Space                     Key Competency: Thinking
Learning Observed
The learners had six activities to choose from to extend their knowledge about Space. Shreya, Saniya and Disha chose to take part in one that required problem solving and thinking skills. They had the option to make either a Mars Rover or a Satellite and picked to do the Satellite. With the provided materials, they had to create their own version of the image that was shown on the screen. Shreya, Saniya and Disha showed curiosity by using the materials in specific ways and tried to use as much detail as possible in their creation. They collaborated by sharing ideas and possible ways to overcome issues, ultimately being very pleased with their final product.
Evidence of learning

Worm Farm Narrative Assessment

Learner: Shreya, Nanami, Irene, Sereya, Alysia and Yuvika
Learning Coach: Mr Hattie            Date: 23 February 2016
Learning Area: iExperience - Worm Farming
Learning Observed
In Learning Habitat 1 this term we have been discussing sustainability. Our group has been looking at recycling, mainly worm farming and decomposition. This has been a new aspect that we have introduced and the learners have taken a real interest in it. During the lesson the learners were put into groups and we were investigating and exploring the worms habitat. The learners had to locate certain aspects of the worm farm. This involved analysing worms and the soil that they call their home. The learners had to use their Curiosity to come up with questions about the worms habitat.  They were showing their Capabilities to be able to identify and locate the specific items of the habitat that we have learnt about. This was a group task so Collaboration and Relating to Others were being shown. Sereya, Yuvika and Alysia were in charge of identifying the different eggs that they find. Delcy and her group were in charge of finding what materials were eaten the most. Shreya and Nanami’s group were to find the most common place they worms were hiding. Irene was helping to find the items that were not decomposing as quickly as the others. They were each reporting back to the larger group.
Evidence of learning

Learners are working together to analyse the worm farm. They all reported back to their group.
Next Learning Steps
Shreya, Nanami, Irene, Sereya, Alysia, Delcy and Yuvika’s next learning steps are to:
  • classify the different items and organic material they found.
  • Discuss and explain the process in which the worms express the worm tea.
  • show evidence of their learning.
