iExplore- Cubism

Learner:   Shreya      Learning Coach:   Luisa Maloni            Date: 4th September, 2015
Learning Area: iExplore: Visual Art: Cubism
Learning Observed
We have been learning about the art movement Cubism. We have looked at many examples of cubism and have created our own studies using the cubist style. Shreya used the elements of shape and fracture to create a study of a tree and a painting. She pushed these ideas further by adding pattern and texture in her painting. She then looked at images on the internet to choose an artistic exemplar she was interested in trying. Shreya chose an image of a heart and then created her own study using ideas from her artistic exemplar. She experiments with  a range of pattern, colour shades and line.

Shreya uses an artistic exemplar to explore ideas about Cubism. She shows a real talent and commitment in the Visual Arts! I can’t wait to see her final work!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Shreya demonstrates the Vision principles of Curiosity in continually experimenting with and searching for new ideas in cubism, Capability in executing beautiful, bold and expressive artworks and Connected in connecting with what other artists are doing within the art style of Cubism. She uses the Key Competencies of Thinking as she develops her own creativity as well as follow an inquiry process.
Next Learning Steps

Collaboration Tower Narrative Assessment

Learner: Shreya                      Learning Coach:  Mr Hattie               Date: 28 July 2015
Learning Area: Developmental Collaboration
Learning Observed
This term at Ormiston Primary we are promoting Collaboration. We have been teaching the skills required to collaborate effectively. Today I was called over to see a group’s creation. To my surprise they had made a Tower the size of them. It had a repeating pattern the whole way up and was built collaboratively. Shreya explained to me how they had made the pattern and what the parts on the side were for. The language that had come out of the description of tower included topic specific words and who made what part. She was very excited about the tower and how tall it was. She described that it was like the Sky tower and wanted to find out about other tall structures. The skills that were required for this project were teamwork, communication of who does what, discussion of the ongoing pattern and respect. It was impressive to see how they had come up with this tower. A totally self motivated project. Well done Shreya!

The Groups end product. Very impressive.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
The Key Competencies used for this project are “thinking” as the group had to think about what they were going to make with the materials that they had. Also Collaboration was used with this project. The learners had delegated jobs and what they were responsible for and there was discussion during this time. “Relating to others” was being used as they had to show respect for others and their ideas to achieve their task.
Next Learning Steps
Shreya’s next learning steps are:
  • more complex description of her project.
  • writing about her project and how she created it.

Shadow Puppets

Learner: Shreya      Learning Coach: Luisa Maloni    Date: 5th June, 2015
Learning Area: iExplore: Shadow Puppets
Learning Observed
We have been looking at shadow theatre on Youtube. We watched a shadow dance and shadow puppets with hands and with paper cut outs. We started by sharing some of the knowledge we have already about shadow puppets and then thought of some questions we had about them. Shreya was able to share some of the handshapes she knew to make a shadow puppet with a partner and then to the whole group. She said “I can make a butterfly with my hands”.Then she shared a question she had about one of the shadow puppet performances we saw on Youtube- “How did the people make their hands into that man?”

Shreya shares her knowledge and questions with the group. I wonder if she likes to ask questions at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya can Connect with what she already knows about Shadow Puppets and can Collaborate through sharing ideas and building new knowledge from others (Thinking, Relating to Others, Using Language, Symbols and Text). She extends her thinking by asking a question that she is Curious about.
Next Learning Steps

  • Describe ways she could find the answers to her questions
  • Identify ways she could share or present her findings

Mentos Explosions!

Learner:  Shreya  Learning Coach: Luisa Maloni    Date: 13th March, 2015
Learning Area: iExperience: Mentos, Coke and Baking Soda Experience
Learning Observed
We had an explosive afternoon this Friday as we experimented with Mentos, Coke and baking soda. All of the learners were very excited to see what would happen when we put the lollies (Mentos) into the coke. I asked the learners what they thought might happen when we put the Mentos lollies into the coke. Shreya’s answer is recorded below in the video clip.
Evidence of learning
Shreya is able to make a prediction based on her previous experiences with experiments.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya is demonstrating her ability to make Connections between what she knows already and what is new. She is making sense of and building her understandings of these new experiences. (Thinking). In sharing her ideas with the group she is practising the key competency of Participating and Contributing.
Next Learning Steps

  • Ask simple questions about new experiences e.g. I wonder what would happen if… or I wonder why….etc…
  • Review her predictions at the end of an experiment

Sunday, 15 March 2015

Learner: Shreya           Learning Coach: Mr Hattie           Date: 3 March 2015
Learning Area: LH2
Learning Observed
At math time we were learning about how to measure objects in the classroom using blocks as a unit of measurement. Shreya had been working well and was proud of all the way she had worked in class. When I asked Shreya to let me know what she was learning she was able to explain it wonderfully. Shreya was able to say what she had learnt, what she enjoyed about it and recap the lesson. This is great student voice. It will allow us to personalise the learning.
Evidence of learning
Please see video on the link

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya has shown thinking and understanding because she understood what she was meant to be doing. This allowed her to reflect on her learning with personal comments. She is showing managing self as she did not need further instructions to complete the task. Shreya related to others because she was working with a partner during this activity.
Next Learning Steps
Shreya’s next learning steps are:
  • use her reflections to create her next steps in terms of her goals.
  • to verbalise what she could have improved on to develop her learning.
  • Write her reflections in her learning pathway.
