Shadow Puppets
Learner: Shreya Learning Coach: Luisa Maloni Date: 5th June, 2015
Learning Area: iExplore: Shadow Puppets
Learning Observed
We have been looking at shadow theatre on Youtube. We watched a shadow dance and shadow puppets with hands and with paper cut outs. We started by sharing some of the knowledge we have already about shadow puppets and then thought of some questions we had about them. Shreya was able to share some of the handshapes she knew to make a shadow puppet with a partner and then to the whole group. She said “I can make a butterfly with my hands”.Then she shared a question she had about one of the shadow puppet performances we saw on Youtube- “How did the people make their hands into that man?”

Evidence of learning

Shreya shares her knowledge and questions with the group. I wonder if she likes to ask questions at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya can Connect with what she already knows about Shadow Puppets and can Collaborate through sharing ideas and building new knowledge from others (Thinking, Relating to Others, Using Language, Symbols and Text). She extends her thinking by asking a question that she is Curious about.

Learning Area: iExperience: Mentos, Coke and Baking Soda Experience
Learning Observed
We had an explosive afternoon this Friday as we experimented with Mentos, Coke and baking soda. All of the learners were very excited to see what would happen when we put the lollies (Mentos) into the coke. I asked the learners what they thought might happen when we put the Mentos lollies into the coke. Shreya’s answer is recorded below in the video clip.

Evidence of learning
Shreya is able to make a prediction based on her previous experiences with experiments.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya is demonstrating her ability to make Connections between what she knows already and what is new. She is making sense of and building her understandings of these new experiences. (Thinking). In sharing her ideas with the group she is practising the key competency of Participating and Contributing.

Learning Observed
At math time we were learning about how to measure objects in the classroom using blocks as a unit of measurement. Shreya had been working well and was proud of all the way she had worked in class. When I asked Shreya to let me know what she was learning she was able to explain it wonderfully. Shreya was able to say what she had learnt, what she enjoyed about it and recap the lesson. This is great student voice. It will allow us to personalise the learning.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shreya has shown thinking and understanding because she understood what she was meant to be doing. This allowed her to reflect on her learning with personal comments. She is showing managing self as she did not need further instructions to complete the task. Shreya related to others because she was working with a partner during this activity.
